I tried to change the LAN settings but was unable to.
How do I fix this? I had the same issue. Whenever i try to search anything in google and i could not open change LAN setting in chrome, i used to get same error. Now, U all need to do is OPEN internet explorer, go to then then click on then you will find many buttons, Click on now a window will pop up, there check ONLY on the 'automatically detect settings'. Then click 'ok'.
Now to be sure go to LAN setting, there also same window pops up. And make sure you check ONLY 'automatically detect settings' and leave rest blank. Now go to chrome or IE and check out, if it works for you, don't forget to thank me and if you still have an issue, let me know.
I have this same issue also and going into control panel, internet options/ click the connections tab, then at the bottom click LAN settings. Un click use a proxy server, then click automatically detect settings. This doesn't work it's grayed out. Chrome and IE shares this file apparently because everytime it pops up when clicked in either IE or Chrome the same box pops up that is in your Control Panel. So mine is still grayed out so that I can't change it to auto connect and uncheck the proxy server connection. Any suggestions? I tried all the posted fixes and the only one that worked for me was the post by 'Icylove'.
I did the fallowing: 1. Right click on Google Chrome and make sure you run As Administrator. (this also fixed IE) 2. Click Menu on the upper right side. Beside the STAR symbol 3.
Click on Settings. Click on “ Show Advanced Settings” 5. Scroll down and find Network. Click on “Change proxy settings”. On the Connections tab, click LAN settings. Uncheck 'Use a proxy server for your LAN.'
Check “ Automatically detect settings” 10. Then click OK.
On some installations, changing this setting requires you to do it as Administrator otherwise it keeps reverting back Hope this helps. Juano101 said: I tried all the posted fixes and the only one that worked for me was the post by 'Icylove'. I did the fallowing: 1.

I have the same Problem however I do believe I know the route to the problem. This occurred this morning after I stopped a spybot search on boot up where I wa told some elements were not delt with in the scan. Searching through this thread the file 'Wajam' has occurred a few times.
Upon running my spybot again 'wajam' has been found as infected into my Pc. Removing this malware fixed the issue. I was also having the problem where unchecking the lan setting would work for 10 seconds only for the box to reset again! Did this both in normal and in admin settings. Remove and find the malware! Hope this helps.

A WORK AROUND to try (until MS finds a permanent automatic solution) is described in 7 steps below. Change your LAN settings you want as described by contributors in your first tab called Settings. Write down your LAN changes in Settings Tab.
Leave that Settings tab OPEN always. Open a NEW tab using a NEW icon tab. Do your stuff only on the new tab ONLY.
Leave LAN settings tab OPEN while you work. DO NOT close it. Go back in 10 minutes or so and check your notes if LAN settings tab have changed. This seems to allow me to work the new tab and leave the settings the way I left them on the settings tab. Mebbyy said: I've also got the same problem and I was able to fix it on my own.

Check the Use Proxy Server for your LAN checkbox. Delete the address (you can leave the port, it will probably be 80), then goto Advanced.
In Advanced under Servers make sure http:, secure:, ftp:, socks: fields are all empty. Make sure the 'Use the same proxy server for all protocols' checkbox is unchecked. Under Exceptions make sure the box only contains this: '.local' but without the quotes. Now Uncheck the Use Proxy Server for your LAN checkbox and make sure the Automatically Detect Settings checkbox is Checked (it should be the only checkbox of the 3 that is checked). Now hit OK/Apply and restart your computer. This should fix it. If it doesn't you need to follow the registry modifying steps: see this video this guy walks you through it.
